May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Pacific Islanders are the Indigenous people from Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. This month is a time to celebrate the culture and heritage of Asians and Pacific Islanders living in America.

Learn a few facts and statistics about the culture and test your knowledge in a 1-minute quiz!

1️⃣ Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to the U.S.

2️⃣ "Aloha" doesn't just mean "hello." It is a word for love, affection, peace, compassion, and mercy that carries a significant cultural meaning to native Hawaiians. If you ever greet someone by saying "aloha," keep this in mind.

3️⃣ More than half of all Pacific Islanders living in America live in two states- California and Hawaii. Hawaii has the country's largest Asian American population (800,000 people).

4️⃣ Many Pacific Islanders speak multiple languages due to contact with Americans and Europeans. Hawaii even has 3 official languages (English, 'Olelo Hawaiian, and English-based Creole called Pidgin).
