It's being talked about here in the U.S. and has been implemented in other countries already. It's a reduced hour work week. (Note, not necessarily "less production.") Have you ever wondered how the 40-hour work week got started to begin with? You just might be surprised.

The 40-hour workweek here in the U.S. was established in 1940. Yes, 1940. It was part of the Fair Labor Act at the time and was modeled after a Ford factory of the 1920's. But, in changing times, most of us don't do work that compares to an auto maker factory of the 1920's. Families also can't rely on one person's salary to support themselves, something that was the norm in the 1920's. Since that time, I think you'd agree that the country has modernized in ways never thought possible.

In 2024, many are advocating for a 32-hour workweek with no loss in pay. Multiple studies (and even the Covid pandemic) have shown that many workers are actually more productive working less hours. Particularly in office settings, the ability to work productively 8 hours a day, 5 days a week is proving difficult, with some of that time being used for breaks.
