In 2020, 1 in 5 high school students used e-cigarettes (also known as vaping), and 1 in 20 middle schoolers used them. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm a child's brain development. Kids who vape are also more likely than kids who don't to smoke cigarettes later in life.

Many kids who vape are not even aware that the e-cigarette liquid contains nicotine, and while scientists are still learning about the long-term side effects of smoking e-cigarettes, approximately 50% of calls to poison control centers about e-cigarettes are for kids age 5 and under. So, these devices are not only harmful to the user. They're also harmful to those around them since many vaping devices could look like a toy to a child.

You can help by asking Congress to give Medicaid enrollees access to treatments that will help them deal with their nicotine addiction and ultimately stop vaping.
