As a result of the pandemic, many Americans are experiencing poverty for the first time. Some have lived in generational poverty their entire lives with seemingly still no way out. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) are two very important tools that help to promote work and help reduce child poverty.

The temporary expansion of the EITC and CTC, if made permanent, can definitely help keep millions of people out of poverty. The expiration of these temporary expansions threatens to deprive families of their only means to escape sliding back into a life of poverty.
