Life expectancies vary greatly around the world. Here in the U.S., life expectancy has been decreasing over the last two decades. As of April 2023, life expectancy is 76.4 years of age. The news is unfortunate, but it provides an opportunity to explore zones of the world where life expectancy is actually increasing.
Starting back in 2000, National Geographic began funding an initiative to identify "blue zones," i.e. areas of the world with reportedly high longevity. During these decades of research, several similarities have been documented between these "blue zones."
It's a fun and educational opportunity to explore and learn about the "blue zones." One tidbit of good news for all of us here in the U.S. - there is one American "blue zone" located in California!
