January 1, 2024 UPDATE: Thank YOU for continuing to advocate for higher minimum wages. Twenty-two states are raising their minimum wages at the start of 2024, according to the Economic Policy Institute. About 40 cities and counties will do the same, with many of the wage levels meeting or exceeding $15 per hour for some or all employees, the National Employment Law Project says. Studies show that in the U.S., a low-wage worker needs to earn at least $15 an hour to cover basic living costs anywhere in the country.

Still, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. It has not been raised since 2009. Many states have a higher minimum wage (ranging from Montana's $8.75 to Washington's $13.69). Some states have plans to raise their minimum wage to $15/hr beginning in the near future.
