Every year, there are over 440,000 kids in the US foster system, with over 120,000 waiting for homes. There are never enough foster families to give these kids a safe, loving home - the ones who can't get a home stay in the group care system. There could be more foster families available, but right now it is legal for states to deny potential foster parents on the basis of religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.
