Meet The Intergenerational Activists Innovating Science, Culture And Climate Justice

ThatHelps is proud of the nonprofits on our app, but we’re especially honored to support the groundbreaking Bioneers. Bioneers is a nonprofit that highlights breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet, bringing together a collective of activists, scientists, and artists who innovate solutions for climate and food justice, sustainability, indigenous rights, and women’s leadership. Their impact touches on social justice, environmentalism, conservation, and sustainability, which one of many reasons they’re unique.

Founded in 1990 in Santa Fe, New Mexico by social entrepreneurs Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons, they sponsor a yearly national conference, media, local conferences and community resilience networks, and leadership training programs focused on youth, women and Indigenous peoples.

Here are five more things to know about the incredible Bioneers.

Earth Guardianz Bioneers

1. They’re intergenerational. Millennials are most welcome. 16-year-old Bioneer Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (center, above), founder of Earth Guardians, works with Bioneers on climate justice and Indigenous rights programs and media. The org’s Youth Leadership Program also unites elders and youth to inspire and support them in engagement and leadership.

2. They empower women. Bioneers’ Everywoman’s Leadership brings together women of all races, ages, and backgrounds to lead environmental and social change in their communities.

3. Their Instagram is 100. Follow @Bioneers if you like insight packaged into creative memes. (And because there are enough pictures of avocado toast on the ‘Gram.)

4. They roll out the welcome mat. Between careers, volunteering, mentoring, interning, or just speaking at a conference, they offer a huge range of entries into the organization. (We can personally attest: they’re warm and friendly people.)

5. They’re multimedia. In addition to rad memes, Bioneers’ Soundcloud channel showcases fascinating conversations between thought leaders, activists, and members. Their creative media approach reflects their creative approach to social and environmental justice. Hit play today.
